Exporting durian to China: separate checks for fresh fruit and frozen pulp

Check market access, quarantine, food safety and traceability by country of origin and product form, then identify where equipment can support the process.

Exporting durian to China: separate checks for fresh fruit and frozen pulp
Scope

Initial checks for fresh durian and frozen products intended for China. Confirm each order against origin, product and establishment eligibility.

Start with country, product and establishment

Approval for a country’s fresh fruit does not automatically cover all its frozen products or establishments. Identify fresh whole fruit, frozen whole fruit, pulp with seeds, seedless pulp or paste, then check access, registration lists and current regulatory status. Use the import fruit rules amended by GACC Order 283, effective 1 November 2026.

Fresh fruit: quarantine, cleaning and protection

Check orchard and packing-house eligibility, certificates, packaging marks and quarantine conditions under the relevant country requirements. For example, the Malaysian fresh-fruit notice requires removal of diseased, pest-infested and rotten fruit, plant debris and soil, with surface cleaning and protection against reinfestation. Its detailed procedure is not a universal procedure for every origin.

Frozen products: treatment and cold-chain records

Treatment conditions can differ between whole fruit, pulp and paste. Malaysia’s Ministry of Health provides separate frozen-durian export requirements and establishment-listing procedures. Read the relevant attachments to confirm treatment temperature, duration, product-temperature verification and storage/transport conditions. Do not extend one country’s whole-fruit treatment to all origins or pulp products.

Check food safety by substance and food category

Use GB 2763—2026 for pesticide residues and GB 2762—2025 for contaminants, alongside other applicable requirements. There is no single total-residue limit for durian. For example, the durian limit for cypermethrin and beta-cypermethrin is 1 mg/kg, expressed as the sum of cypermethrin isomers. Other pesticides covered by broader fruit categories must also be checked.

Tell the laboratory the product form and test portion

GB 2763 Annex A specifies testing durian pulp, with seed weight included when calculating the residue level. Do not transfer this rule directly to contaminant testing. Confirm classification and calculation separately for seedless frozen pulp, paste and other processed products. Match reports to batch, method, residue definition and applicable limit.

Connect compliance work to the production line

Provide batch identification, sampling and retained-sample locations, and a hold area for fruit awaiting release. Record cleaning and relevant temperature controls. Washing, weight sorting and combination weighing support operations but do not replace laboratory testing, quarantine or establishment registration. Equipment delivery does not automatically qualify an export shipment.
